RAISING THE FLAGS
When you reach your flag pole, stand at parade rest (feet apart, hands behind the back) until you hear the SPL call “untie”. Then untie ropes, untangle ropes, lower clips, attach your flag to the clips, face your partner and remain at parade rest. Taped music will play. When the cannon is fired, immediately raise the American flags, all other flags follow one second later and in unison. All flags should be raised briskly. Before you tie your ropes, make sure your flag is not twisted in the ropes. Then tie your ropes and stand at attention (feet together, arms at sides). Then wait and march back to the Barracks with the group.
LOWERING THE FLAGS
When you reach your flag pole, stand at parade rest until you hear the SPL call “untie”. Then unfasten your ropes and untangle the ropes, face your partner and stand at parade rest. The taped music will play twice. When you hear the cannon, immediately lower all non-American flags in unison, and the American flags will follow one second later. All flags should be lowered respectfully and slowly. Fold your flag and stand at attention. Then wait and march up to the Barracks with the group.
PROBLEMS WITH FLAGS
Upside down: If your raise your flag and it is upside down, fix it immediately. Do not leave a flag flying upside down.
Stuck ropes: If your ropes are stuck, leave them alone. Do not hang on stuck ropes! The rope has most likely come off of the pulley and hanging on it will only jam it in next to the pulley making it more difficult to fix.
