MISSION CHURCH
* * *
DESCRIPTION
This small, white, Protestant church was built in 1829 by Rev. and Mrs. William Ferry. They worked to educate and convert the Native Americans on the Island. In 1834, the Ferrys left the Island and the church was used sporadically until it was bought and renovated by the State Park.
DIRECTIONS
From the Barracks: Go left on the road in front of the Barracks, and when it splits, keep to the right (along the bluff). Go down one of the stairways, and down to Lake Shore Road. Take it left, the church is on the left.
From Town: Take Main Street past Indian Dormitory until you see Mission Church on your left. It will be past St. Anne’s.
