DESCRIPTION
Reproduction of 1/2 pound cannons and 6-pound cannons guard the park below. From this strategic spot it is easy to see why the British chose the high bluff above the natural harbor as a logical place to build Fort Mackinac
Position: Stand near the wall with your back to the harbor, by the ropes around the main cannon.
Heavy Rain with Lightning: Move to porch of the Guardhouse/Jail.
INSTRUCTIONS
Bathrooms: Downstairs, turn right to North Sally Port, behind Soldiers’ Barracks.
Water Fountain: Top of the steps at main entrance and in the bathrooms.
Islands directly across Straits:
large~Bois Blanc (Bwa-Blawnk);
small with lighthouse~Round Island
Houses Next to Fort: large~Old Hospital; small (farther away)~Surgeon’s Quarters; now houses State Park Commission Directors.

INSTRUCTIONS
- Greet guests and offer to take their photo.
- Know the times of rifle firings, cannon firings and guided tours.
- Know how to direct guests to the Parade Ground, Tea Room, Fort Mackinac Museum Store, drinking fountain, restroom and multiple exits.
- KEEP ALL PEOPLE OFF ALL WALLS AND FRONT CLIFF.
- Point out to the guests the downtown area and the Straits of Mackinac.
- Keep area tidy. Pick up any foil that has scattered after the cannon firing demonstrations. (Note: Do not volunteer for demonstrations!)
