LOVER'S LEAP
Lover’s Leap is a limestone pillar standing 145 feet above Lake Huron. The name comes from an ancient legend. A Chippewa maiden, Lo‑tah, sat on the pillar waiting for a glimpse of the canoes of the warriors who had gone to fight the Iroquois. Her lover had gone, hoping to prove his worth to her father. As they returned, she could hear them singing the Death Song. Seeing that they were singing for her beloved, she threw herself from the cliff to the rocks below.
