There are lots of people around. You are very easily observed ~ don’t slouch!
HISTORY
For 115 years the Fort’s soldiers marched and drilled on the Parade Ground. Today, costumed guides recreate rifle firings on the Parade Ground. The Parade Ground is an excellent place to point out to visitors the fort's three strategically placed blockhouses, and the fort's unique fire prevention system. The Officers' Stone Quarters is considered to be the oldest building in the State of Michigan. It is the only building in the fort dating from the original British occupation of 1780.
Position: Stand next to the porch of the Soldier’s Barracks facing the hill.
If Raining: Move to porch.
INSTRUCTIONS
Bathrooms: Across the porch and turn left; behind Soldiers’ Barracks.
Water Fountain: Top of the steps at main entrance and in the bathrooms.

INSTRUCTIONS
- Greet visitors and offer to take their photo.
- Know the times of the rifle firings, cannon firings and guided tours.
- During rifle firing demonstrations Scouts should be aware of the demonstration and be prepared to police the Parade Ground. Guests are free to walk across the Parade Ground During the lecture portion of the demonstration. Scouts should only stop guests from walking across the Parade Ground once the inerpreter leading the demonstration has warned guests about the loud noise of the rifle and that they should over their ears. Guests can be asked to move off the Parade Ground during the lecture portion of the demonstration if they are lingering and sitting down.
- Keep people from running/walking up/down hill. Ask them politely to use the stairs. Keep people off hill during rifle demonstrations.
- Know something about all the buildings in the fort, and be outgoing!
- Keep area tidy.
- You may rotate your shift with North Sally Port. Do this only if you have permission from your Patrol, Asst Patrol Leader or LIT, and only while you’re being relieved.
